Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are not the only ones concerned about the fate of previous Marvel TV series. Recently, Disney CEO Bob Chapek made some comments that seemed to diminish the importance of past Marvel TV shows, which did not sit well with one of the stars of the Marvel series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Chapek, during Disney+ Day, said, “Marvel Studios is creating an interconnected universe that will redefine and elevate the Marvel brand with new series that stand alongside and tie into our theatrical releases.” This statement appears to disregard the previous Marvel TV shows such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and implies that the new Marvel series are the first to have a closer connection with the MCU films.
Jeff Ward, the actor who portrayed Deke Shaw on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., took to Instagram to offer his thoughts on Chapek’s comments. In his post, Ward expressed his gratitude to the fans of the show and acknowledged that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. existed for seven seasons before any of the new series came to be.
Ward stated, “Hey Bob. I just wanted to say thank you so much to the billions of fans who have kept the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on the air for seven seasons. I know there were some really important people who tried to get rid of us pretty early on… especially considering there’s a new television show that Marvel Studios is making. The first, so… big deal.”
Despite the perceived slight, the arrival of new Marvel TV series on Disney+ signals a strong connection between the shows and the MCU films, which most fans have been longing for. However, the contributions and entertainment provided by previous Marvel TV series, such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., should not be forgotten.
