– Arrowverse actors criticize Stephen Amell for his comments on a potential strike
– Amell’s tweet about the IATSE strike receives negative backlash from colleagues
– Co-stars and industry personnel express disappointment and disagreement with the actor’s stance
Stephen Amell recently faced criticism from his fellow Arrowverse colleagues after expressing his stance on the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) strike. The actor, known for playing Oliver Queen/Green Arrow on “Arrow,” was blasted for his tweet surrounding the potential strike by several actors and industry professionals.
Amell took to Twitter on September 30 and wrote, “From the cast of Heels, we stand with #IATSE and if there’s a strike, shut it down.” However, he went on to add, “But also… don’t.” Co-stars and others from the industry were not pleased with Amell’s seemingly contradictory statement and took to Twitter to voice their disappointment.
Juliana Harkavy, who played Dinah Drake/Black Canary on “Arrow,” replied to Amell’s tweet by saying, “This fucking guy,” followed by a broken heart emoji. Other actors who had worked within the Arrowverse, including Caity Lotz (Sara Lance/White Canary) and Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/Atom), liked her tweet, signifying their agreement with Harkavy’s sentiment.
Another “Arrow” alumnus, Colton Haynes, chimed in and tweeted directly at Amell, expressing his disagreement. He wrote, “Oh, Stephen. This ain’t the one. #IATSE is fighting for basic human needs.”
Former “Arrow” executive story editor and acclaimed comic book writer Gail Simone weighed in on the situation, posting her own tweet that said, “All those people who said, ‘Stephen Amell is just like Green Arrow,’ I’d like to have a word.”
Stephen Amell has not publicly addressed the backlash he received for his comments on the potential IATSE strike.
