- No release date has been set for the remaining episodes of Doom Patrol, but DC Studios’ James Gunn is positive it will happen.
- Gunn confirms that the completed episodes will not be shelved and will be released eventually.
- Fans are concerned about the show’s fate, citing precedent for completed projects that never made it to air.
Although the release date for the final episodes of Doom Patrol on Max has not been announced yet, James Gunn, co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios, is optimistic it will eventually be set. Gunn addressed concerns about the show’s future by stating that he “can’t imagine a world where completed episodes are not going to be released.”
Later, Gunn shared an update, saying, “I now have confirmation: As I surmised, no, Doom Patrol episodes are absolutely NOT being shelved, even though the premiere date for the next shows hasn’t yet been announced to the public.”
However, some fans pointed out that there have been instances where completed projects were never released, including more than one Warner Bros. Discovery property. For example, the Batgirl movie and the fourth season of Snowpiercer were both canceled before release. In the case of Snowpiercer, TNT had initially said they were seeking a new home for the show’s final episodes, but there has not been any news on that matter.
In January, it was announced that both Doom Patrol and fellow DC Comics series Titans would end with their fourth seasons. At the time, Gunn mentioned that the decision to end the series preceded his and Peter Safran’s involvement, while a Max spokesperson reaffirmed their pride in the series and excitement for fans to see the endings. However, while Titans returned for its final episodes in April, a release date for Doom Patrol’s remaining episodes has yet to be announced. The Season 4A finale of Doom Patrol was released on Max on January 5.
