- Ellen Pompeo criticizes Netflix over actors’ lack of residuals
- SAG-AFTRA strike focuses on better residual payments for performers
- Pompeo stands with her colleagues and expresses her disappointment in a tweet
Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo has publicly called out Netflix for not providing adequate residual payments to actors. This comes in the midst of the ongoing Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike, which is aimed at securing better and fairer residual compensation for performers.
Taking to Twitter on September 28, Pompeo expressed her solidarity with her co-workers and condemned Netflix. “Beyond disappointed in @netflix,” the actress wrote, “None of us would even be here without actors. I stand with my fellow actors and ask that their hard work be compensated. I stand with my camera crew and below the line workers as well. #Istandwithsagaftra #Istandwithiatse.”
The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike began on September 27 and includes a call for improvements in residuals across streaming services and other areas. Residual payments, particularly for performers, have become a pressing issue as the entertainment industry increasingly relies on streaming platforms.
Pompeo’s remarks add further fuel to the ongoing debate surrounding fair compensation for actors and other industry workers. It remains to be seen whether Netflix and other streaming platforms will respond and make changes in line with the demands of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
