Former WWE Wrestler Mike “Mantaur” Halac died at the age of 55. He gained prominence in the wrestling world during the 1990s when he portrayed a mythical minotaur character, combining the elements of a man and a bull. In recent times, he had been grappling with an array of health issues.
Halac began his wrestling career in the early ’90s, and in 1995, he joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), now known as WWE. He would regularly sport a giant bull mask, charging into the ring, and terrorizing his opponents as the “Mantaur” character. He competed in numerous competitions during his tenure in WWE and fought against other wrestling legends such as Razor Ramon and Bam Bam Bigelow.
In 2016, Halac and over fifty other former wrestlers filed a class-action lawsuit against WWE, alleging that the company was responsible for the long-term neurological injuries they suffered as a result of their wrestling careers. The lawsuit was dismissed in September 2018 by a federal judge, citing statute of limitations and other legal reasons.
Despite facing health challenges in the latter years of his life, Halac continued to make occasional appearances in the wrestling circuit before eventually retiring. The wrestling community is mourning the loss of the iconic “Mantaur” and celebrating the uniqueness he brought to the world of wrestling.
