General Hospital star Tristan Rogers has announced he’s been diagnosed with cancer.
The actor, who’s played Robert Scorpio on the ABC soap opera for over four decades, shared the news with fans on social media this week.
Rogers didn’t provide specific details about the type of cancer or his treatment plan. He did say he’s working with his medical team and remains optimistic about his recovery.
"I wanted to let everyone know what’s been going on," Rogers wrote in his post.
The 78-year-old Australian actor first joined General Hospital in 1980. His character Robert Scorpio became a fan favorite as part of the show’s adventure storylines during the 1980s.
Rogers left the show in 1992 but returned for guest appearances over the years. He’s been back as a regular cast member since 2008.
His character Robert is known for his relationships with other longtime characters, including his former wife Anna Devane and his friendship with Luke Spencer.
The actor has also appeared on The Young and the Restless as Colin Atkinson. He’s won multiple Daytime Emmy nominations for his soap opera work.
