HBO has announced its plan for the release of some highly anticipated shows by the year 2024. The lineup includes House of the Dragon, a prequel to the hit series Game of Thrones, and Curb Your Enthusiasm, in addition to other notable series from the network.
House of the Dragon, which is expected to premiere in 2024, is a Game of Thrones prequel set 300 years before the events of the original series. The show follows the early history of House Targaryen, eventually leading up to the Targaryen civil war, known as the Dance of the Dragons. Besides this much-awaited series, HBO confirmed another project exploring the pre-history of Westeros which “is still being developed and has yet to receive a green light.”
In addition to House of the Dragon, HBO’s 2024 release schedule includes the comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm. Created by and starring Larry David, the show has been a fan favorite since its inception in 2000. According to HBO programming chief Casey Bloys, the 2024 season is “in good shape.”
Fans can also expect new seasons of Insecure, The Righteous Gemstones, and Avenue 5. Although the premiere dates are not confirmed, HBO has provided updates on the statuses of these shows. Insecure’s final season is in production, while The Righteous Gemstones’ second season is in the works and Avenue 5’s renewal for a second season is still in the cards.
As HBO continues with its strong lineup of series, the network is planning on expanding the Game of Thrones universe by potentially releasing a second prequel series in the future. This yet-unnamed series will explore the rise and fall of the ancient city of Valyria, which played a significant role in shaping the world of Game of Thrones.
