- Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers receives a surprising renewal for Season 2 after initially being billed as a limited series.
- Nicole Kidman is confirmed to return, and Murray Bartlett is in discussions to join the cast.
- Season 2 will follow a similar premise as the first, set in the Swiss Alps this time around.
In an unexpected move, Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers, which was initially promoted as a limited series, has secured a second season. The decision comes after Hulu submitted Nine Perfect Strangers in the drama series categories instead of limited series for the 2022 Primetime Emmys last May, hinting at the possibility of an additional season.
Variety reports that Nicole Kidman is slated to reprise her role as Masha, while The White Lotus’ Murray Bartlett is also considering a role in the upcoming season. Joining the cast are Maisie Richardson-Sellers (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), Liv Ullmann (Two Lives), Dolly De Leon (Triangle of Sadness), and Turkish actor Aras Aydin (Cherry Season).
Nine Perfect Strangers, based on Liane Moriarty’s novel, takes place at the enigmatic Tranquillum House, a wellness resort run by Kidman’s mysterious character. The first season saw nine people uncover deep secrets about themselves and the resort’s staff. Season 2 will reportedly maintain a similar storyline, this time set in the Swiss Alps.
This marks the second time a Moriarty novel adaptation has expanded beyond its initial vision. HBO’s Big Little Lies, also starring Kidman and created by David E. Kelley, was initially intended as a miniseries but returned for a second season following a critically acclaimed and Emmy-winning debut.
