Paramount+ has renewed its military drama series "Lioness" for a third season, the streaming platform announced.
The show, which stars Zoe SaldaƱa and Nicole Kidman, will return for another installment following strong viewership performance in its second season.
"Lioness" follows a CIA operative who leads an undercover team of female soldiers. The series is based on a real military program.
SaldaƱa plays Joe, the team leader who recruits and trains women for dangerous missions overseas. Kidman portrays Kaitlyn Meade, a senior CIA official overseeing the operations.
The second season premiered earlier this year and concluded its run last month.
Series creator Taylor Sheridan will return as showrunner for the third season. Sheridan also executive produces alongside SaldaƱa, Kidman, and David Glasser.
Production Timeline
Production on season three is expected to begin later this year. No premiere date has been announced yet.
The renewal comes as part of Paramount+’s continued investment in Sheridan’s programming. The network also airs his other series including "Yellowstone" and "1923."
"Lioness" has performed well for the streaming service since its debut. The show ranks among Paramount+’s most-watched original series.
The cast also includes Laysla De Oliveira, Dave Annable, and Jill Wagner in supporting roles.
Season three will likely continue following the team’s international missions and the personal costs of their covert work.
