Actress Elizabeth Hoffman, best known for her role as Eleanor Girard in the popular television series “Sisters”, has died at the age of 97. Having a career that spanned almost four decades, Hoffman appeared in a variety of film, theater, and television productions.

Born in August 1923, Hoffman caught the acting bug at a young age and ultimately moved to Paris after World War II. Her initial work involved performing with the Sesame Street puppeteers, where she sharpened her craft. She went on to star in Broadway productions such as “The Cherry Orchard” and “Saint Joan”. In the 1980s, Hoffman transitioned into television and film, her credits include “The Bridges of Madison County”, “Patch Adams”, and “The Night We Never Met”.

Hoffman will always be recognized and remembered for her role as Eleanor Girard in the long-running primetime show “Sisters”. The program aired between 1991 and 1996, chronicling the lives of four very different sisters and their families. Hoffman played the warm, wise, and loving “Mama” to the leading characters, providing a strong sense of family support.

Elizabeth Hoffman leaves behind her son, television and film director Michael Caton-Jones, who confirmed her death. The entertainment industry has lost a beacon of talent and warmth with the passing of this veteran actress.
