Gotham Knights’ Misha Collins has spoken out regarding the recent cancellation of The CW series, where he played Gotham City’s district attorney, Harvey Dent. Collins posted a lengthy tweet on Monday afternoon, stating that he felt “incredibly bummed” about the news.
He wrote, “Just got back on the grid after unplugging for a week to hear the news that #CWGothamKnights was canceled by @TheCW and won’t be able to find a new home. I’m incredibly bummed, and selfishly disappointed to not be able to fully explore my ‘villain arc,’ but I’m proud of the show we made and so grateful to have been able to work with such a smart, caring, good group of people.”
Collins also expressed pride in the show’s commitment to diverse and inclusive storytelling, and thanked fans for their support. He added, “The show may be ending, but I know this community will keep the light shining against the darkness in the real world. Onward!”
Throughout Gotham Knights, the show has been building up to Dent’s eventual transformation into the villainous Two-Face. Collins had previously shared a behind-the-scenes video hinting at a full-on physical transformation for his character.
The CW’s cancellation news came as a shock, and was followed by showrunners James Stoteraux and Chad Fiveash announcing that their efforts to find a new network for the series were unsuccessful. They explained in a statement, “Our producing partners at Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Discovery had been working extremely hard to get the show picked up or possibly even moved to a new network. There is a great deal of love and support for GK at the studio and at The CW as well. Unfortunately, despite all their efforts, The CW wasn’t able to renew the show, and the studio wasn’t able to find a new home for it.”
Stoteraux and Fiveash assured fans that the show’s cancellation wasn’t due to a lack of effort or enthusiasm, and expressed gratitude for the studio’s attempts to save the series. The penultimate episode of Gotham Knights will air on Tuesday, June 20, and the series finale is scheduled for June 27.
