- Former Netflix ‘Daredevil’ showrunner claims Disney+ is using cost-cutting tactics
- Disney’s version of ‘Daredevil’ might not continue the story from Netflix series
- The revised version of the show could lead to a reduced budget and more creative control for Disney
Steven DeKnight, the original showrunner for Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’, has accused Disney+ of engaging in “corporate shenanigans” with the intention of cutting costs as they plan to release their own version of the Marvel series. The show was canceled by Netflix in 2018, but with Disney acquiring Marvel, fans have anticipated a continuation of the story under Disney+.
According to DeKnight, Disney+ is most likely going to create an entirely new version of ‘Daredevil’, which he interprets as a corporate strategy to reduce the budget of the show and gain more creative control over the Marvel property. This would be a non-revival that would abandon the story from Netflix’s series, disappointing the fans who were invested in the storylines and character developments from the original show.
DeKnight shared his opinion in response to a fan asking about the future of ‘Daredevil’ on Twitter: “My guess is a cost cutting measure where, as you point out, non-continuation allows for potentially a much smaller budget and more creative control over the character.” This leaves fans wondering whether they will see their favorite characters return or if the new version will be a completely different take on the beloved superhero.
