BBC and Netflix have ordered two seasons of a new Peaky Blinders sequel series from creator Steven Knight.
The announcement confirms the return of the acclaimed crime drama universe that concluded its six-season run in 2022. Knight will write and executive produce the new series.
Cillian Murphy is set to return as Tommy Shelby and will also serve as executive producer alongside Knight.
The new series will continue the story beyond the events of the original show’s finale. Production details and additional casting haven’t been announced yet.
“I’m genuinely thrilled that the story continues,” Murphy said in a statement. “It’s very exciting to be back in collaboration with Steven Knight and the rest of the team.”
Knight previously indicated plans for a Peaky Blinders film project. The relationship between the announced series and any potential movie remains unclear.
The original Peaky Blinders ran from 2013 to 2022 and became one of BBC’s most successful international exports. The show followed the Shelby crime family in post-World War I Birmingham.
Netflix served as the international distributor for the original series outside the UK. The streaming platform will handle global distribution for the new seasons while BBC will air the show domestically.
Production timelines and premiere dates haven’t been confirmed by either network.
The announcement comes as both BBC and Netflix continue investing heavily in original British drama content. Peaky Blinders remains one of Netflix’s most-watched UK productions globally.
