- Robert Irvine’s Restaurant: Impossible has been cancelled by Food Network after 20 seasons.
- Irvine believes the network thinks the show does not fit with what they want or appeal to younger viewers.
- Irvine hints at having other projects in the works, vowing to continue helping struggling restaurants
Robert Irvine, the host of Restaurant: Impossible, has shared some insights into the cancellation of his popular eatery makeover show, which was quietly cancelled in the spring after 20 seasons. In April this year, shortly after the season finale, Irvine informed fans that Food Network hadn’t yet shared any information with him about the show’s future but “So I assume it’s done.” Reality Blurred later confirmed the show had been cancelled by Food Network.
Recently, Irvine explained the cancellation of Restaurant: Impossible on Twitter, stating, “I’m old news, and although the show is a great show that helps small business and families/communities, it’s not a show that they [at the network and/or Warner Bros. Discovery] believe fits into who or what they want, or the younger viewers like.”
When a fan asked about the possibility of Restaurant: Impossible’s cancellation being reversed, Irvine indicated that it would be highly unlikely. “I don’t think any amount of fans telling Food Network to bring it back will do anything to change their mind,” he said. “They have a different idea of what the viewers want and @Rest_Imposs isn’t in that, so we will move on and see what happens next.” Irvine also hinted at having other projects in the works, promising to share more information when he knows.
Despite being disappointed with the cancellation of Restaurant: Impossible, Irvine remains determined to help struggling restaurants turn things around. “All I know is I will continue to help all those in need regardless,” he said. The show first premiered in January 2011, had a break after 13 seasons in May 2016 before resuming in April 2019, and aired its last episode on April 6 of this year. Most episodes aired on Food Network, with a brief stint on Discovery+ in January 2021 before quickly returning to Food Network.
