– Stefon movie would have started with a death
– Seth Meyers shared the movie’s concept
– Stefon is Bill Hader’s popular Saturday Night Live character
The concept for a Stefon movie, with Bill Hader reprising his beloved “Saturday Night Live” character, would have started on a dark note, according to Seth Meyers. Meyers, who co-created the character Stefon alongside Hader, revealed that the film would have opened with the death of another significant character from SNL, aka the famous Weekend Update guest, David “Club Guy” Caspe.
“If there ever was a Stefon movie, that’s how it would have started,” Meyers shared while discussing the proposed film with his former SNL colleague, Fred Armisen. Taking inspiration from Jimmy Fallon’s 2002 book “I Hate This Place: The Pessimist’s Guide to Life”, Meyers crafted the character Stefon with Hader in 2005 for an unaired sketch on SNL. The flamboyant movie critic went on to become a fan-favorite on the show.
