– SNL veteran horrified by fake nose
– Mayim Bialik felt ashamed
– Blossom Spoof
Former Saturday Night Live (SNL) cast member Julia Sweeney was reportedly mortified by the fake nose she wore during a parody of the 90s show Blossom, which made actress Mayim Bialik feel “ashamed.” The sketch took a humorous approach to the hit sitcom, with Sweeney playing Bialik’s character with an exaggerated facial prosthetic.
In a recent interview, Sweeney admitted that the fake nose bothered her a lot at the time. “I remember feeling really bad about it,” she said, adding that she didn’t think she’d do something like that now. She also noted that she never had a chance to talk to Bialik about the incident, but hoped Bialik understood it was meant as a comedic bit and not a personal attack.
Bialik, who starred in Blossom from 1991 to 1995, mentioned in a previous interview that she was very hurt by the parody. She explained how, as a young actress, she felt “ashamed” after seeing the sketch, and even wondered if she should continue acting as a result. However, she went on to achieve great success in her career, later starring in the popular sitcom The Big Bang Theory.
In hindsight, both Sweeney and Bialik acknowledged that the parody sketch and fake nose were in poor taste. But, the incident serves as a reminder of how impactful and potentially hurtful comedy can be in the entertainment industry.
