- Strikes cause delays for The CW’s new releases, including ‘Superman and Lois’ and ‘Walker,’ pushing them to 2024
- Nexstar CEO Perry Sook remains positive about The CW’s prospects despite setbacks
- The network is focusing on digital platforms and international markets for growth
The ongoing strikes within the entertainment industry are causing a major setback for The CW, with upcoming series such as ‘Superman and Lois’ and ‘Walker’ getting delayed until 2024. Despite these challenges, Nexstar Media Group CEO Perry Sook remains optimistic about the network’s chances of success in the future.
The CW network, co-owned by Nexstar and Warner Bros., has been focusing on creating content geared towards digital platforms and international markets, which Sook believes will prove invaluable while navigating the issues arising from the ongoing strikes. He noted, “As we look at the time the pandemic took out of our schedule and when we added ‘Walker,’ ‘Superman and Lois,’ and ‘Kung Fu’ to the schedule, it pushed everything further out into 2024, but that’s fine. It’s when you have a chance to course-correct a network like ours.”
Sook emphasized that while the delays are unfortunate, they might ultimately be beneficial for the network as they allow more time for research and development, a process which can help The CW achieve greater long-term success. He also pointed out that new professionals have been brought on board to help improve the network’s chances of competing with other major players in the media industry.
Even with these hurdles, Sook is confident in The CW’s ability to thrive and adapt to the changing media landscape. By focusing on digital platforms and international markets, the network is well-positioned to capitalize on opportunities for growth and success in the future.
