The superhero satire series The Boys has officially wrapped filming on its fifth and final season, according to showrunner Eric Kripke.
Kripke announced the production milestone on social media, calling it the "grand finale" of the Amazon Prime Video series.
“That’s a wrap on The Boys. What a long, strange, violent, gory, profane, hilarious, heartfelt trip it’s been. The cast and crew gave everything to this final season, and I think fans are going to love how we bring this story home.”
The announcement comes nearly two years after Amazon renewed the series for its concluding season in 2023.
Season 5 won’t arrive until 2026 based on the show’s typical post-production timeline. Previous seasons required 12-15 months between filming completion and release.
The series, which premiered in 2019, follows a group of vigilantes fighting corrupt superheroes in a world where powered individuals are managed by a massive corporation. Karl Urban leads the cast as Billy Butcher, with Antony Starr playing the series’ primary antagonist Homelander.
Kripke has maintained that five seasons represented the complete story he wanted to tell. He’s previously stated the ending has been planned since the show’s early development.
What’s Next for The Boys Universe
While the main series concludes, the franchise continues expanding on Amazon Prime Video.
Gen V, the college-set spinoff, was renewed for a second season. The show focuses on young superheroes training at a university setting.
A prequel series called Vought Rising is also in development, exploring the origins of the superhero corporation that dominates the Boys universe.
The final season will reportedly address long-running storylines including Butcher’s terminal condition and his ongoing conflict with Homelander. Kripke has promised a definitive conclusion to all major character arcs.
