HBO has renewed The Gilded Age for a fourth season ahead of the period drama’s season three finale.
The network announced the renewal as the series continues its third season run. The show follows the social upheaval of 1880s New York as old money families clash with new industrial fortunes.
The Gilded Age comes from Julian Fellowes, who created Downton Abbey. The series stars Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, and Carrie Coon as members of New York’s elite society navigating changing times.
Season three has averaged strong viewership numbers across HBO’s platforms.
The series films primarily in New York and Rhode Island. Production uses elaborate period costumes and sets to recreate the opulent world of America’s wealthiest families during the late 19th century.
Fellowes serves as creator, writer, and executive producer alongside Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant. The show is produced by Universal Television in association with Carnival Films.
HBO hasn’t announced a premiere date for season four. The network typically films The Gilded Age during warmer months to accommodate the series’ extensive outdoor scenes and period locations.
The renewal comes as HBO continues investing in prestige period dramas. The series joins other historical shows in the network’s programming lineup focused on exploring pivotal moments in American history.
Season three’s finale airs this Sunday on HBO and streams on Max.
