Charisma Carpenter says she’d welcome a chance to return to the Buffy universe after her character Cordelia Chase met what she calls an “unjust” end in the Angel spinoff.
The actress, who played Cordelia across both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, told fans at a recent convention that she remains hopeful about reprising the role. Her character’s storyline concluded controversially in Angel’s fourth season.
“I think it would be poetic,” Carpenter said about potentially returning to the franchise.
Cordelia started as Buffy’s high school rival before becoming a core member of Angel’s team in Los Angeles. Her character arc spanned seven seasons across both shows before ending abruptly.
Carpenter has been vocal about her departure from Angel. She’s previously described feeling pushed out after becoming pregnant during filming.
The actress hasn’t appeared in any Buffy-related content since leaving Angel in 2004. Several other original cast members have expressed interest in potential reboots or continuations over the years.
Creator Joss Whedon announced plans for a Buffy reboot in 2018, though the project hasn’t moved forward. Various factors including behind-the-scenes controversies have complicated revival efforts.
Carpenter’s comments come as streaming platforms continue developing reboots of popular supernatural series from the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The original Buffy ran for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003. Angel continued for five seasons, ending in 2004. Both shows maintain dedicated fanbases who regularly discuss potential returns at conventions and online.
No official Buffy reboot has been announced, though fan interest remains high nearly two decades after the original series concluded.
