Apple TV+ has cast Jennifer Aniston to portray Jennette McCurdy’s mother in the upcoming series adaptation of McCurdy’s bestselling memoir "I’m Glad My Mom Died."
The streaming service announced the casting decision as part of its continued push into prestige drama programming. Aniston will play Debra McCurdy, the complicated maternal figure at the center of the former Nickelodeon star’s story.
McCurdy’s memoir detailed her experiences as a child actor and her relationship with her mother, who died in 2013.
The book became a cultural phenomenon after its release, spending weeks on bestseller lists. It offered an unflinching look at the entertainment industry’s treatment of young performers and the complex dynamics of stage parenting.
Aniston’s involvement marks her return to Apple TV+ following her starring role in "The Morning Show." She’ll also serve as an executive producer on the project through her Echo Films production company.
The series is currently in pre-production with filming expected to begin later this year. No premiere date has been announced.
McCurdy, who starred in Nickelodeon’s "iCarly" and "Sam & Cat," has been involved in the adaptation process as an executive producer. She’s also expected to have creative input on the script and casting decisions.
The project represents Apple TV+’s ongoing strategy to adapt popular literary works. The platform has found success with book adaptations including "The Essex Serpent" and "Pachinko."
Variety first reported the casting news, citing sources close to the production.
Additional casting announcements are expected in the coming months as the series moves toward production.
